About Us

St.John's Episcopal Church has welcomed those in the Haw Creek neighborhood and the greater Asheville area since 1885 when it was a church plant from downtown Trinity Episcopal Church.

The church building where we currently worship opened its bright red doors in the early 1970's. You will find the church office, our Christian formation classrooms, the choir rehearsal room, restrooms, the gathering space and the kitchen in the Parish Hall adjacent to our worship building.

Clergy

The Rev. Jeanne Finan

I am delighted to serve as the Rector of St. John's. I began serving here in July, 2007 after four years as the Associate Rector at St. Mary of the Hills in Blowing Rock, NC. After a career in museums, I attended Virginia Theological Seminary and graduated in 2003. I have also studied Celtic Christianity at the University of Wales.

My husband is Tom Eshelman, Executive Director of the Valle Crucis Conference Center. We have two children—our daughter Benares is an artist and teacher and lives with her musician husband Jeff and their daughter Penelope in Massachusetts, and our son Jody is a district manager for Starbucks and lives with his wife Natalie and our three beautiful and amazing grandchildren in the mountains of Colorado.

In addition to serving joyfully as a parish priest, I offer spiritual direction, lead retreats and enjoy writing. I have one published book Remember Your Baptism: Ten Meditations (Cowley Publications) and several published poems.
