We, who are many and diverse, come together in Christ through our worship — our common prayer. In most of our services, we use the Book of Common Prayer, though alternative liturgies are used on occasion and in certain seasons of the Church year.
Music is a form of prayer and is central to our liturgy at St. John’s. A team of musicians, led by our organist, Paul Templon, prepares glorious music for worship featuring organ, piano, and choir. We are often blessed with accompaniment by violin, guitar, and cello. There is truly a sweet, sweet, spirit in this place.
During the school year, Sunday School and a Nursery are offered during the worship service for children ages 3 months through high school. Children rejoin the service before communion. Sunday School is on pause during the summer months.
Participation in worship ministries can be surprisingly uplifting, and no one is “too young” or “too old” to serve in worship. Acolytes, altar guild, ushers, readers, and all who assist in worship are vital for creating a living, communal experience for everyone.
In addition to the various instrumentalists that fill the sanctuary with sweet sounds each Sunday, our choir leads us as we lift our voices to God. The choir practices once a week and always welcomes new, enthusiastic voices.
